Reading and Healing
In my family, lying around not feeling well wasn't always such a bad thing because it meant you got to read a lot. Any excuse for reading undisturbed by such petty things as work and chores was always a good one, even if it involved tissues, bathrobes, slippers and lots of juice.
Recovering from surgery is another excuse to read and in my case meant an unabashed shopping trip before going to the hospital that involved several bookstores and many hours of careful browsing. I am a library nut from way back and always have a bunch of library books stacked around but for this extended period I wanted to be able to pick and choose books to read without worrying about due dates. (I already support the library book fund with my overdue books.)
It's great fun to just buy books to help oneself heal. The possibilities are endless and totally tempting. I usually reserve my book buying for books I use in my work so my library is heavily focused around nature and art books with a healthy dose of spiritual and health books tossed in. Collections of short stories and essays and a random collection of fiction that doesn't necessarily reflect my taste as much as does that of my gift givers also have their share of space on my shelves. I recently received a bunch of books as gifts as well so my current reading pile is quite fat and happy.
I will post titles and links later on. I have to go read now. What are you reading?
